Exploding Wall

Exploding Wall

I think it’s been 15 years since I last made an exploding balloon wall. They’re not for the faint hearted but thankfully this one worked perfectly. Bangles were used on the side poles which instantly helped everything fall to the floor after the balloons exploded.

Each 3ft balloon has a pyro fuse taped to the side. The side is the weakest part of the balloon where the latex is most stretched so the smallest of sparks will burst the balloon. All the balloons are taped to each other using gaffa to give the exploding wall some strength. If a fuse was to fail it’s likely the tape will rip the balloon as the whole thing disappears.

I used a 6/24 pyro box to fire this which I’ve owned for over 20 years. I though maybe times had changed but after googling the best available firing box it was still the 6/24.

Here’s how the wall looked after the button was pressed.

On behalf of the NIC Operations team, I would like to thank you and your team for helping with the NIC inauguration ceremony. The opening was organised to a very high standard. All feedback received was excellent.

Many thanks for your cooperation. We will definitely consider you for future events.
